Carl Hess met President Obama for a second time during a democratic rally in Roanake, VA. Carl was honored to present President Obama with this original portrait before his speech. In response to a negative illustration displayed of President Obama and First Lady in the New York Times (depicting them as terrorist holding guns), Carl was encouraged to portray these two in their true light. As a result, he created the original "She IS".

Carl Hess was fortunate to meet President Obama for the first time during the 99th Annual NAACP Convention held in Cincinatti, OH. When Carl and President Obama greeted one another, Carl offered this original painting to Obama. The President complimented his art, signed the portrait, and asked Carl to cherish it forever.
